MY FIRST CHRISTMAS

My first Christmas?

I remember:

all was in the lights of amber,

all was in the light of snow,

all was large and fairy-like slow,

all was full of the enchantment-

Little Jesus has just entered

with the first bright wintry star-

I was there and too far,

I was still to small to tell

that I liked the jingle bells,

that I liked the New-Year Tree,

that I still was really free,

as I couldn't obey the laws-

I was granted an age pause,

I was small, like a ball,

I could not walk- I could fall,

but I liked the bright-lit hall

and the fir-tree, all in balls,

and the table with the candle,

and the gifts, and the mood,

and the Santa Clause's hood,

and the drink which was milk,

and the festive dinner food,

and the toys and the silk

of the warming fresh, brisk air...

I liked Christmas as my Bear,

a big, sweet and warm Teddy Bear,

as he liked it, I did care-

my infant's memory is rare!
